AbstractThe dipole moments of alkali metal chlorides were found to be responsible for their catalysis of the oxidation of diesel soot, by strengthening the interaction of the catalysts with the surface C-O complexes of soot and rendering the valence electrons of soot transferrable for the oxidation.
