Structural and Electrochromic Properties of Undoped and Mo-Doped V2O5 Thin Films by a Two- Electrode Electrodeposition

AbstractThe undoped and Mo-doped V2O5 thin films were fabricated by electrochemical deposition method in a simple two-electrode system from the low temperature solution-processed precursor of V2O5. The undoped and Mo-doped V2O5 thin films have a large interlayer distance of approximately 1.20 nm, and exhibit both the largest interlayer distance and the maximal layered (001) preferred-orientation at the optimum deposition voltage of 10 V. For the two types of thin films, the intensity of the vibrational modes related to V-O increases with the increase of the applied deposition voltages. Surface roughness of the Mo-doped V2O5 thin films increases with the increase of deposition voltages, which is attributed to the correspondently improved layered (001) preferred-orientation. The undoped and Mo-doped V2O5 thin films deposited at the optimum deposition voltage of 10 V exhibits high coloration efficiency (up to 63.6 cm(2) C-1) with a multi-color electrochromic performance. The high coloration efficiency is attributed to the layered (001) preferred-orientation and large interlayer distance, which is beneficial for injection and extraction of ions and electrons. This proposed method is expected to simplify the fabrication processes and reduce the thermal budgets in the electrochromic applications.
